Chaim's Love song's Playwright: "never have I felt
the script handled so lovingly, carefully, and naturally."
[On] Friday,
Sharon and I flew to Toronto
to see your production of [my play] CHAIM'S LOVE SONG.
We left sunshiny
77 degree Los Angeles to fly into the
biggest snow storm in Toronto
in 30 or 40 years. On Saturday, I couldn't move my walker two feet
through the snow on the streets.
I thought: what
have we done? Traveled 3,000 miles to be stuck in a hotel? Would
our return flight get off on Monday? Was it worth it?
We saw the play
[TEATRON'S production of CHAIM'S LOVE SONG] on Sunday. I expected a good
production. My expectations were way too low. Was it worth it? Oh,
brother!
From start to
finish, it was done naturally. The actors disappeared and became the
characters they played. Each plot change came logically, properly
motivated.
The laughs were
there. The dramatic theme even more so. The audience was movingly
affected.
I've seen
the play dozens of times over the past ten years, with different actors,
directors and interpretations, and I was mostly satisfied. But,
never have I felt the script handled so lovingly, carefully, and
naturally. The acting, the direction, the work of the crew were all integrated, warm, and first rate.

What the Media
Has Said About TEATRON:
"CHAIM'S
LOVE SONG is a simple and touching, and at times uproariously funny play.
Best of all it is enlivened by Irving Dobbs' larger-than-life portrayal
of Chaim.
Ari
Weisberg's staging, aided by Daniel Sonenberg's
effective lighting design, makes it clear when Chaim's
memories are taking over the stage. CHAIM'S LOVE SONG is a sweet show,
without ever becoming saccharine. Weisberg notes in the program that
after reading the play several years ago he fell in love with it. You
will too." The Mirror, Mark A. Lawrence
"TEATRON's The God of Isaac is often hysterically
funny and at times surreptitiously touching. The performers under Ari
Weisberg's crisp direction keep the play moving at a quick and steady
pace building to a correct yet surprising ending. Don't miss it!"
The North York Mirror, Mark Andrew
Lawrence
"It's not often
that a theatre production is able to do justice to a great novel and a
great movie, but TEATRON Theatre's production of The Chosen proves
beyond a doubt that it can be done. Director and producer Ari Weisberg's
use of lighting and stage direction combine brilliantly to juxtapose the
past and the future, as well as the orthodox and secular Jewish
home." Town Crier, Sandie Benitah.
"Ari Weisberg
has done an admirable job of directing The Chosen, making it a
vivid and timely theatre piece. You don't have to be Jewish or religious
to enjoy the work. Sure there's a spiritual quality to The Chosen,
but it's a universal one." Jewish Tribune, Barbara Shainbaum.
"An
entertaining and thoughtful production, director Ari Weisberg and the
cast of The Sisters Rosensweig have
given the play careful consideration. Each of the performers completely
understands the motivations of their characters." The Mirror, Mark
A. Lawrence.
